Help orphans
Moonee Valley Leader - July 18, 2005
LOCAL charity the Lifestart Foundation is holding its second annual benefit to raise funds for orphaned Vietnamese children.
In its first year of operation the foundation raised $15,000 for several projects.
Founder and Essendon resident Karen Leonard said funds were used to sponsor 24 families into the Adopt-A-Family program in Vietnam's Quang Nam province, set up businesses, install running water and electricity, concrete dirt floors and buy clothes, food and blankets for struggling families.
Nine "at-risk" young people gained apprenticeships and funding was provided for a young girl awaiting orthopaedic surgery. Funds were also used to build 15 boats and three houses.
On Saturday, July 30, the Lifestart Foundation is holding a Christmas in July black-tie dinner dance and charity auction at 6:30pm at 501 Receptions, Barkly St. Footscray. Tickets are $650 for a table of 10 and $780 for a table of 12, which include a three-course meal and beer, wine and soft drinks. To book or donate items to be auctioned, phone Karen Leonard on 9331 2540 or 0402 132 432.
